We purchased a small (middle-of-range) British Elddis Avante 362 caravan at J & D Caravans and took delivery at the beginning of the year. Now that we have been out for our first camping ‘adventure’ with the caravan we felt compelled to share our purchasing and other experiences.
Firstly the service, advice and courtesy shown by Duncan, not to mention his professionalism and down to earth honesty, were second to none. Everything he said proved to be true and his vast amount of knowledge (all shared with a great generosity of spirit) made our first caravanning experience absolutely effortless.
It is worth noting here that Duncan even took on the very difficult challenge of properly wiring our Peugeot and presented us with a very neat and professional installation at the end of our site seeing and pub lunch trip around Gympie. We were very grateful for Duncan’s generous offer to loan us his car for this purpose.
Secondly, the 2002 12’ caravan itself presented like new and everyone who has come around to see it has been very impressed. Most were amazed by the design (“and it even has a bathroom?”), quality and features, especially those who had already bought lesser equipped, bigger and heavier brands of caravans at far greater cost elsewhere.
On the trip, the van towed surprisingly well behind our four cylinder diesel Peugeot 307 both on the highway and along narrow twisty, hilly roads (yes we were erroneously guided by ‘sat nav’). Also, manoeuvring around our garage and at the camp site on grass proved to be no problem at all.
Finally, we thought we would never buy a caravan. However, we researched a lot, looked at alternatives around Brisbane, spoke to importers and then finally made our way up to Gympie.
All we can say is that it is well worth the trip.
